Waterportraits
This work is about water landscapes. These are not reproductions of any real places, but stand for the feelings delivered by landscapes, their value as a threatened space of life. They begin with a mental image, owing some to memory, embedded in the mind. All of these paintings have in common the presence of water, to which you are drawn by its unsettledness and ability to reflect, giving way to interpretation of a complex reality. The act of painting essentially calls for a gestural approach, involving the body in a relationship with the elements. Thin overlays of colours are used, intended to create visual effects and the constant movement of matter. When I’m in the act of painting, I almost physically sense the space in nature, where one feels nearly inexistent, yet strongly belonging there.
Portrait d’eau
Dans ce travail sur le paysage d’eau il ne s’agit pas de reproduire mais de représenter la sensation du paysage / espace vécu. Le point de départ est de l’ordre de l’image mentale, de la memoire … inscrites dans l’inconscient. Toutes ces peintures ont en commun la présence d’eau qui attire par sa variabilité et par sa capacité de réflexion, ouvrant simultanément la possibilité d’interprétation, regard sur la réalité multiple. La peinture se transcrit essentiellement par le geste ; superposition de couches minces et création d’effets optique de mouvement constant de la matière / lumière. Au moment de peindre je me trouve dans la sensation d’espace presque physique de la nature, où on se sent quasi inexistant et à la fois fortement appartenir à elle.

Maalaukseni ovat tuntemuksia maisemasta : lähtökohtana niille ovat olleet mielikuvat, muistikuvat… Yhteisenä tekijänä näistä maisemista usein löytyy vesi, joka kiehtoo vaihtelevaisuutensa ja moniulottuisuutensa vuoksi : sen heijastuskyky luo mahdollisuuden useamman todellisuustason yhtäaikaiseen tulkintaan. Kuvani ovat saaneet alkunsa lähes fyysisestä tilakokemuksesta luonnossa, jossa tuntee itsensä melkein olemattomaksi ja samalla voimakkaan yhteenkuuluvaksi siihen. Maalausprosessini lähentelee tätä tilaa. Käytän päällekkäisiä ohuita maalauspintoja joiden kautta siirryn itse tilaan ja sen myötä samaistun siihen. Vedenkuvista on muotoutunut identiteettini kuva.
